I have completed numerous commissions, both where we meet and the painting is picked up and when the whole process is completed online and the painting is shipped.
Both methods require similar approach and are a two way process - the person requesting the commission sets the scene, the event or ship that they want painting.
I can then start with some preliminary sketches and e-mail for advice from client, at this point a deposit of at least 25% is payed, through Paypal Request or direct. Once a deposit is agreed I can do a detailed sketch to study the vessel or vessels and event, time of day, weather etc.

Once that is accepted I can begin the painting. Once that is complete and the client is happy we can agree on frame and glass options if I required. Some people take the painting hung in the mount only.
THE FINAL PAINTING OF HMS THETIS
The shipping is done via Parcel Force Global Priority, tracked and signed. the painting is packed very meticulously for maximum protection and has stickers to alert carriers. see here...
The cost of commission depends on size and amount of work involved, but generally the same as my gallery paintings, this would be agreed with new client before commencement and deposit payed when preliminary sketches are completed, the final balance to be payed when the completed painting is packed and ready to ship. From £300 to £400 mounted only, depending on size and subject. Plus £50 to £80 for framing, depending on the glass and frame.
