HMS Terror sailed from Chatham Dockyard down the River Medway to Gillingham, on 10 September 1839 at the commencement of James Clark Ross’s 1839-1843 Antarctic Expedition (HMSs Erebus and Terror). Specifically.
 
"On Tuesday [10 September 1839] the Terror, Captain Crozier, dropped down from off the dockyard, at Chatham, to Gillingham, with all her white canvas spread, and looking like a bird of passage preparing to wing its way to another clime..."
